Plastic Disasters

A scary look at cosmetic surgery
Plastic surgery had a rather humble beginning in the early 1900's for what was the right reasons back then. After World War I, many soldiers had facial disfigurements from projectiles hitting them as a result of trench warfare. These surgeries were performed to make repairs, save the soldiers from embarrassment and shame, and to help them continue on with normal lives.

Fast forward to the late 1970's and beyond. Following the introduction of breast implants, plastic surgery became big business with a way to make big money. That being said I would also say that this film was unbelievably lacking in actual documented cases of malpractice in dealing with elective plastic surgery. First I would like to discuss Lucille. No factual data, interviews, documentation, ECT concerning her case were discussed. On the contrary when she was seen by the otolaryngologist and had a thorough exam including a fiber optic scope of her nasal and oral pharynx, he stated she had no obvious signs of swallowing or breathing problems. The excess skin appeared normal for someone her age and body type. If it were truly an emergency dealing with an airway problem it would be addressed or she would not...
